The school is 317 years old. Following the interim of communism, the Cistercians recovered the buildings in 1993. It is situated in the centre of the oldest part of the town, which is part of the cultural heritage of Europe. The school is a grammar school starting with 12 year-olds. Most classes end after 4 years with a middle school certificate (cmp. to O-Levels), one class continues for another 2 years finishing with a leaving certificate that is compararable to A-Levels. Cultural life in the school is manifold and vivacious: There is a famous school choir, an Orff orchestra, and a good folk dance ensemble.
